Diesel Smog Checks
Diesel Opacity “Smoke” Check
Exhaust opacity tests, also known as diesel smoke checks, apply to trucks with model year engines 2012 or older. This type of Clean Truck Check test includes measuring the diesel particulates in the exhaust gases using CARB-approved testing equipment, as well as a visual inspection of the vehicle’s emission system components. Test results must be manually uploaded the the CTC-VIS database by the CARB test technician.
OBD Diesel Smog Check
On-board Diagnostic (OBD) tests are for diesel trucks with engines 2013 and newer. This type of test uses CARB-compliant Clean Truck Check testing equipment to communicate with a vehicle’s OBD data to verify that the emission control system components are functioning correctly, and that a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) has not been manually reset without the required repairs. Test results are transmitted immediately to your CTC-VIS account.
